How to Feedback: You’ve Got To Get It To Give It

Three weeks ago I sent you Part 1 of How to Feedback, from a conversation with my dear friend and colleague, Annalise Koltai, on how leaders can get better at giving feedback.

Part 2 is below (and the link for Part 1 if you missed it). Each video in this series is less then 15 minutes and the practices/reflections can happen while you walk your dog, drive to work or brush your teeth. That means bigger, better feedback muscles are less than an hour away.

Here’s Part 2 👇🏻.  Let me know how you’re doing!

Key takeaways

  • Leaders need to ask themselves how they have contributed to things being the way they are—counterintuitively, this step is a demonstration of competence

  • It’s almost impossible to give feedback if you can’t receive it

  • There is a massive upside when feedback becomes a cultural norm for your team

Reflection Questions

  1. In what ways do you resist getting feedback? What makes getting feedback challenging for you?

  2. What may prevent others from giving you feedback?

  3. What practices/experiments could you try to get more, regular feedback? Who will you ask first?
