How to Feedback: You’ve Got To Get It To Give It

Three weeks ago I sent you Part 1 of our How to Feedback series from a conversation with my friend and colleague, Annalise Koltai, about the leadership skill of  giving feedback.

Part 2 is below— it’s short (less than 9 minutes) and you can do the  practices/reflections while you walk your dog, drive to work or brush your teeth. That means bigger, better feedback muscles are minutes away.

Here’s Part 2 👇🏻.  Let me know how you’re doing!

Key takeaways

  • Leaders need to ask themselves how they have contributed to things being the way they are—this takes practice AND demonstrates competence, which may feel counterintuitive but it’s true, trust us

  • It’s almost impossible to give feedback if you can’t receive it

  • There is a massive upside when feedback becomes a cultural norm for your team

Reflection Questions

  1. What makes getting feedback challenging for you?

  2. What may prevent others from giving you feedback?

  3. In what small ways could you experiment with getting daily feedback? (like doing regular self-reflections or checking in with allies) ?
